Biography
This group comprised Norman Grant (vocals, drums), Ralston Grant (vocals, rhythm guitar), Eric Barnard (piano), Karl Hyatt (vocals, percussion) and Albert Green (congas, percussion). All the members were born in Falmouth, Jamaica. Formed in 1962 by the Grant brothers, the Twinkles won various local musical awards and talent competitions before recording their earliest side, Somebody Please Help Me, in 1966 for producer Leslie Kong. The group went on to record for other producers such as Duke Reid, Lee Perry, Sid Bucknor, Phil Pratt, Ken Chang and Bunny Lee. In the early 70s they went into self-production, financing their sessions through Normans employment as a solo artist. Their music embraced calypso, soul, pop and soft reggae, which they had performed on Jamaicas north coast hotel circuit.
