Indie rock supergroup formed by Jack White (John Anthony Gillis, 9 July 1975, Detroit, Michigan, USA; guitar/vocals) of the White Stripes, solo artist and producer Brendan Benson (b. Detroit, Michigan, USA; guitar/vocals), and Patrick Keeler (drums) and Jack Lawrence (bass) of the Detroit-based psychedelic band the Greenhornes. White and Benson were old friends from the Detroit rock scene of the late 90s, and their paths had crossed on several occasions as the White Stripes shot to mainstream success in the new millennium. White also played on an ad hoc basis with the Greenhornes and recruited Keeler and Lawrence to play on Loretta Lynns 2004 album, Van Lear Rose.
