Biography

Formed in Brooklyn, New York, USA, in 1958, the Quotations featured Larry Kaye (aka Larry Kassman; lead), Richie Shwartz (first tenor), Lou Arno (second tenor) and Harvey Hershkowitz (baritone). MGM Records' songwriter Helen Miller agreed to take over their management, and after bringing them to Verve Records she suggested they make their debut with a cover version of Johnny Burke's "Imagination". Released in January 1962, the record reached number 105. They followed up early the next year with "This Love Of Mine', but both this and their revision of the Tempos" "See You In September" later in the year failed to build on the debut. After joining Kapp Records in 1963 the Quotations released "Is It True What They Say About Barbara", co-written with Charles Koppelman, later co-chairman of SBK/EMI Music Publishing. However, the group were not credited as the Quotations, with the record ascribed instead to its lead vocalist, Mike Regal, formerly of the Chord-A-Boys. The...
