Biography
Formed in Seattle, Washington, USA, this alternative rock band broke into the US and UK charts in 1995 with their no-nonsense riff-laden music. Chris Ballew (Christopher Ballew, 28 May 1965, USA; vocals/basitar (two-string bass)) told Billboard that Ever since I was a kid, Id make up songs about pigs, monkeys, and chickens with my brother. In years of writing songs, when I couldnt think of lyrics I went back to the monkey thing. I resisted it for a while, because I always wanted to write regular songs. Then I got together with Mark Sandman from Morphine, and it loosened the floodgates for me. I decided not to censor myself anymore, and I let all the animal imagery come flying out. He worked with Sandman in the ad hoc Supergroup, and also toured as part of Becks backing band.
