Biography
Formed in Seattle, Washington, USA, the Posies play powerfully melodic music that pays tribute to Merseybeat and the harmonies of the Hollies. Growing up in Bellingham, 90 miles north of Seattle, Jonathan Auer (vocals/guitar) and Ken Stringfellow (vocals/guitar) were both in bands in their early teens, and even joined their high school choir. Stringfellow married Kim Warnick of the Fastbacks, and mixed and produced for various Seattle/ Sub Pop Records bands. He also guested for Mudhoney. However, the Posies were influenced as much by Hüsker Dü as by the songwriting prowess of XTC, Elvis Costello and Squeeze, and both members were part of the original industrial-noise line-up of Sky Cries Mary. The duos debut was recorded (originally on their own label as a cassette, later on PopLlama Products) in 1988 and introduced their penchant for sanguine, everyday lyrical topics.
