Biography
Formed in 1976 with a line-up comprising Peter Perrett (8 April 1952, Camberwell, London, England; vocals/guitar), John Perry (b. 4 June 1952, Bristol, England; guitar), Alan Mair (bass) and Mike Kellie (b. Michael Kellie, 24 March 1947, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; drums). Although touted as a new wave group, the unit included several old lags; Mair had previously worked with Scotlands the Beatstalkers, while Kellie had drummed with Spooky Tooth, Peter Frampton and Balls. Perretts former band, Englands Glory, would have their demos released retrospectively after the Only Ones initial demise. After a promising independent single, Lovers Of Today, the band was signed by CBS Records and made their debut with the searing opus Another Girl, Another Planet - one of the UK new waves most enduring songs.
