Formed in Harlow, Essex, the Naturals - Ricki Potter (England; vocals), Curt Cresswell (b. England; lead guitar), Bob O’Neale (b. England; harmonica), Mike Wakelin (b. England; bass), Douglas Ellis (b. England; guitar) and Roy Heather (Hoath) (b. England; drums) - were originally known as the Blue Beats and had recorded several singles under this early appellation. The quintet made their debut as the Naturals in 1964, scoring their only hit in the UK singles chart that same year with a version of the Beatles’ song, ‘I Should Have Known Better’. Suspicions that the song had been the success, rather than the performers, was confirmed when subsequent, inferior singles failed to make an impression.
