The Mink Lungs
This Brooklyn, New York City, USA-based indie rock band was formed in 1998 by multi-instrumentalists Jennifer Hoopes and Gian Carlo Feleppa. The duo was joined by Gians half-brother Tim Feleppa and drummer Tom Galbraith and made their live debut in New York in April 1999. After signing a recording contract with the Arena Rock Recording Company the quartet set about completing work on material for their debut album, with all four members contributing vocals and sharing instrumental duties. The fuzzy production and mixture of abrasive guitars and insinuating melodies on 2001s The Better Button recalled the work of US lo-fi pioneers such as Flaming Lips, Guided By Voices, and Ween. The sublime rush of the opening two tracks I Sell Love and Silent Sex set a standard the rest of the album struggled to maintain, but the Mink Lungs were still marked out by many critics as one of the more promising indie bands to emerge in the new...
