Biography
All-female unit formed in the mid-90s by Jane Vidrine (fiddle, guitar, vocals) and Ann Savoy (Ann Allen, 20 January 1952, St. Louis, Missouri, USA; accordion, fiddle, guitar, bass, vocals). Presented as a four-piece band, other members have included Lisa Trahan Reed (bass, vocals), Anya Schoenegge (fiddle, vocals) and Tina Pilione (fiddle, vocals), and Christine Balfa (guitar, banjo, ukulele). Playing tough-edged Cajun music with great verve and considerable flair, the group quickly established a following, appealing as it does not only to traditionalists but also to the new, younger audience. The group plays traditional songs from Cajun and Creole musics early years, including soulful ballads and lively dance pieces. They also range through to the present day with popular songs from south-west Louisiana and original pieces composed by band members.
