Biography
This long-serving US bluegrass band was the brainchild of Tim Austin (banjo/guitar/vocals), who assembled the first Lonesome River Band in 1983. He was joined in the original line-up by three highly respected traditional musicians, Steve Thomas (mandolin/fiddle), Rick Williams (banjo), and Jerry McMillan (bass). The quartet made their recording debut in 1985, releasing I Guess Heartaches Are In Style This Year on the local Shar Lin label. The follow-ups Saturday Night/Sunday Morning and The Lonesome River Band received national distribution through Rebel Records, and featured Austin and McMillan backed by a revolving cast list of musicians including Brian Fesler (banjo), Adam Steffey (mandolin), Jeff Midkiff (mandolin), and Randy Driskill (banjo/vocals).
