Biography
Originally known as the Meadowlarks, and formed in 1953, this Los Angeles, California, USA-based vocal group originally comprised Don Julian (7 April 1937, d. 6 November 1998; tenor), Ronald Barrett (tenor) and Earl Jones (baritone/bass). Randy Jones (b. Randall Jones, USA, d. 2002; bass) and Billy Pruitt (tenor) were subsequently added to the line-up, although the latter did not always sing on their recordings for the RPM label. Pruitt had departed and Randy Jones was replaced by Glen Reagan by the time the group recorded its first single for the Dootone label, "Heaven And Paradise". Released in 1955, that record failed to make the R&B charts and for the rest of the decade the Meadowlarks were an off/on concern, with Julian touring as a soloist for a while.
