Biography

This smooth harmony vocal trio from Sun Valley, California, USA, consisted of Jim West (7 January 1941), Al Candelaria (b. 7 March 1941) and Darron Stankey (b. 5 July 1942). Candelaria and Stankey originally performed as a duo before being joined by lead singer West. They first recorded as the Echoes on the west coast Andex label and after renaming themselves (after the car club they belonged to), they had their first chart success with the haunting and beautiful ballad ‘Honest I Do’, a Gary S. Paxton production that made the US Top 40 in 1960. Shortly afterwards, the group backed 14-year-old Kathy Young on a revival of the Revileers ‘A Thousand Stars’ which made the US Top 5. With Young they scored a further two US chart entries and their own revival of ‘Gee Whiz’ gave them their second and last Top 40 hit.
