Biography

A family group from Salinas, California, USA, made up of brothers Chris Hinson, Larry Hinson and Kenny Hinson plus sister Yvonne Hinson, the unit made a big impact on gospel music fans in the 70s. They had been professionally active since the late 60s prior to this breakthrough, making their name as guests on the Florida Boys’ The Gospel Singing Jubilee television programme. Their numerous albums for Calvary Records drew increasingly strong gospel chart returns and critical approval as the decade progressed, their song ‘The Lighthouse’ winning both a Singing News magazine and Dove Award as Best Gospel Song. They were also among the 1975 nominees for the Dove Awards’ Best Mixed Group category. In the late 70s Yvonne Hinson left the group, her role taken by Chris Hawkins.
