Biography
The Hillside Singers were brought together in 1972 by USA record producer Al Ham and left their mark with one chart hit, ‘I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)’, that year. Ham, a music business veteran who once played bass and arranged for big band artists such as Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw, later worked as a staff producer for Columbia Records during the 50s and produced the original cast recordings of West Side Story, My Fair Lady and other Broadway shows. The members of the Hillside Singers were chosen by Ham for the express purpose of recording the single which Ham believed had potential beyond the Coca-Cola commercial it accompanied. The group consisted of Mary Mayo, Ham’s daughter Lori, brothers Ron and Rick Shaw and members of another group called Good Life.
