Biography
The Helio Sequence is a US indie pop duo comprising Brandon Summers (guitar/vocals) and Benjamin Weikel (keyboards/drums). Based in Beaverton, Oregon, the duo formed the project in 1999 and issued a self-released EP later in the year. The EPs experimental ambient approach was carried over to the 2000 album Com Plex, which like the EP was played, recorded, produced and mixed entirely by Summers and Weikel in their tiny home studio. Reminiscent at time of Pink Floyd and My Bloody Valentine, the duo built up layers of vocals, electronics and conventional instruments into a hazy ambient swirl with occasional bursts of melodic clarity. After one further independent release, the duo switched to the Seattle-based label Sub Pop Records for 2004s Love And Distance. Both this album and the 2008 follow-up, Keep Your Eyes Ahead, toned down the noisy ambience of their earlier releases and fashioned a more succinct sound that allowed the duos folk pop melodies...
