Biography
This US gospel singing group from Kentucky was formed by Happy Goodman (Howard Goodman, 7 November 1921, USA, d. 30 November 2002, Nashville, Tennessee, USA; lead vocals), his wife Vestal Goodman (b. Vestal Freeman, 1929, Fyffe, Alabama, USA, d. 27 December 2003, Celebration, Florida, USA; lead vocals), Rusty Goodman (bass), and Sam Goodman (baritone). They originally came to prominence as part of The Gospel Singing Jubilee television programme, which pioneered the delivery of Christian music to audiences in the early 60s. They also appeared regularly on other programmes, including Oral Roberts Weekend, The Dinah Shore Show, and their own Happy Goodman Family Hour series which ran during the 70s. They released a succession of albums from 1964 onwards, many of them proving hugely successful with gospel fans across the USA.
