Biography
This Kansas City, Missouri, USA-based outfit was formed in October 1994 by Matthew Pryor (USA; vocals/guitar), Jim Suptic (b. 14 October 1977, Milford, Delaware, USA; vocals/guitar), Robbie Pope (b. USA; bass) and Nathan Shay (drums). Their unusual name is taken from a song by Pryors former band Secular Theme, Suburban Get Up Kids. Shay was replaced by Ryan Pope (b. USA) shortly after the release of the bands debut 7-inch single, Shorty/The Breathing Method. Several independently released singles followed before the band affiliated themselves with the Doghouse Records label. They released their long-playing debut, Four Minute Mile, in September 1997, and set off on a non-stop tour of the USA and Europe supporting fellow emo (emotional hardcore) bands the Promise Ring and Braid.
