Biography
Larry (Larry Wayne Gatlin, 2 May 1948, Seminole, but raised in nearby Odessa, Texas, USA) and his brothers, Steve (b. 4 April 1951, Olney, Texas, USA) and Rudy (b. 20 August 1952, Olney, Texas, USA), were encouraged in their fledgling talent by their father, an oil driller, and with their younger sister LaDonna (b. 18 August 1954, Abilene, Texas, USA), they sang at church functions, appeared on television and made an album. They worked together for several years until Larry enrolled at the University of Houston. In 1971, he was a temporary replacement in the Imperials gospel group, and then Dottie West recorded his songs Once You Were Mine and Youre The Other Half Of Me, and he moved to Nashville. Johnny Cash performed The Last Supper and Help Me in his documentary film The Gospel Road, and also sang with Kris Kristofferson on his Jesus Was A Capricorn.
