The Dillinger Escape Plan

Perhaps the best way to describe the sound and approach of Dillinger Escape Plan is as an all-out assault on the senses. Formed in New Jersey, USA, during 1997, the band was formed from the remnants of hardcore band Arcane. Dimitri Minakakis (vocals), Ben Weinman (guitar), Derrick Brantley (guitar), Chris Pennie (drums) and Adam Doll (bass) played two shows together, before the exit of Brantley reduced the line-up to a quartet. Mixing the aggression of hardcore metal with pure cacophony separated the band from the rest of the pack almost immediately, as they issued a self-titled debut the same year as their formation (the album would be reissued several years later). Second guitarist John Fulton was added to the line-up on the subsequent tour, following which the band signed a new recording contract with Relapse Records.
