Biography
Originally named Crown Of Thorns, the Crown was formed in Trollhatten, Sweden in 1990. The band initially comprised Johan Lindstrand (vocals), Magnus Olsfelt (bass), Janne Saarenpä (drums), Marko Tervonen and Robert Österberg (both guitar). The bands first demo, although a fairly primitive affair, introduced the bands uncompromising take on all-out death metal mixed with a semblance of hyper-charged punk. Marcus Sunesson replaced Österberg in time for a much-improved second demo which together with typically dynamic live performances earned the band a contract with the Swedish independent Black Sun label. Crown Of Thorns 1995 debut, The Burning, combined the re-recorded demo material and found the band continuing to eschew the developing melodic tendencies of North European death and thrash metal.
