Biography
This Hampshire, England band specializes in a style of alt rock that could serve as the perfect soundtrack to a sleepy Sunday morning. Clientele was formed in 1997 by Alasdair MacLean (vocals/guitar), James Hornsey (bass), Innes Phillips (guitar/vocals) and Howard (drums), although the members had actually been playing together for five years as the Butterfly Collectors (material from this period later surfaced on the Its Art, Dad compilation). Line-up changes quickly ensued when Howard was replaced by Mark Keen and Phillips left to form the Relict. After relocating to London, the remaining trio found similar musical ground in acts such as Joy Division and the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Clientele opted to go about building a fanbase in a way that was becoming increasingly uncommon, by issuing vinyl 7-inch singles.
