Biography

Formed in Rochester, New York, in 1979, this long-serving US band has based its repertoire almost exclusively on 60s garage rock. Founded by Greg Prevost (vocals), Andy Babiuk (bass), Orest Guran (organ), Richard Cona (guitar) and Doug Meech (drums), the Chesterfield Kings played New York’s Peppermint Lounge before releasing two albums that were instrumental in kickstarting the 80s garage band revival. The band dissolved around 1987 but was re-formed some three years later by Prevost, Babiuk, Paul Rocco (guitar) and Brett Reynolds (drums). Other musicians who have passed through the line-up in later years include guitarists Jeff and Ted Okolowicz and Paul Morabito, and drummers Kris Hadlock and Mike Boise. Occasionally, the band has been joined by guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and keyboard player Paul Nunes.
