This US neo-folk trio is a far cry from founder member Derek Fudesco’s previous band, the post-punk group Pretty Girls Make Graves. Pete Quirk (vocals, guitar, melodica; ex-Hint Hint) and Marty Lund (drums, guitar; ex-Cobra High) joined the bass player in his new project, with former Pretty Girls Make Graves vocalist Andrea Zollo also making a guest appearance on their recording debut for Matador Records. Released at the end of 2007, Invitation Songs was a refreshing and surprisingly spontaneous take on the American folk idiom, with Quirk’s androgynous vocals lending the tracks an eerie, backwoods atmosphere.
