Formed in 1964, the band comprised brothers Roman, Albert and Jerry. Born and/or raised in Garland, Alabama, USA, they came together to record several singles on a small independent label in their home state. With Roman as lead singer and also playing bass, Albert playing guitar and Jerry singing and playing piano, they performed a lively repertoire of R&B and one of the recordings, reissued on Jewel Records, proved to be popular and almost made the Top 20 of the R&B charts. This was ‘Southern Country Boy’ but despite this single’s success the band folded in 1967. Although Albert and Jerry appear to have left the music scene, Roman Carter went on to have a moderately successful solo career and in 1999 he was recognized by Real Blues magazine with an award as Best Male Blues Vocalist. (NB: A bluegrass duo formed by Danny and Tim Carter of North Carolina is also known as the Carter Brothers.)
