Biography
Formed in the mid-60s, the pop/MOR vocal quartet comprised twins Edward and Fred Farran from Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, and brothers Scott and Thomas Herrick from East Lansing, Michigan, USA. They met while attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, hence the group's name. They recorded a one-off single for Mercury Records, "Anyone Here For Love?", in 1965. Despite the fact that their Four Freshmen style of vocalizing was out of fashion, they achieved four US chart singles on Date, the Columbia Records subsidiary. Their first release and their first hit was "A Symphony For Susan" (number 51, October 1966) and their biggest success came with their original, easy-listening treatment of the Box Tops/Joe Cocker hit "The Letter", which reached number 20 in February 1969. They joined the Wes Farrell Organization in 1974, but no hits followed for the quartet. They relocated to Chicago and have since become very much in demand for singing television jingles. ...
