Biography
Led by vocalist/guitarist Robert Schneider (South Africa), Denver, Colorado, USA-based Apples In Stereo is one of a crop of allied bands, known as the Elephant 6 Recording Company and including the Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel and Elf Power, who have spent their career trying to recreate the sonic abandon of classic 60s songwriting. The Beach Boys are by some way the bands most obvious reference point. Backed by Schneiders girlfriend (and later wife) Hilary Sidney and a bass player, the band (originally known as the Apples) released a series of acclaimed EPs for SpinART Records in the mid-90s that were eventually compiled on Science Faire. Their debut album proper was 1996s Fun Trick Noisemaker, on which Schneider pretended to be in a studio orbiting 12, 000 miles above Earth.
