Formed during June 1984 in New York, USA, the A-Bones were an offshoot of the 50s-styled retro-rock group the Zantees. Founding members Billy Miller (vocals), Miriam Linna (drums) and Mike Lewis (bass) were joined by Mike Mariconda (guitar), who was also a member of the New York garage band the Raunch Hands. Mariconda left in 1985 and was replaced by Bruce Bennett. That line-up backed rockabilly artist Hasil Adkins on Wild Man, and recorded theTempo Tantrum EP for Germanys Exile Records in 1985, after which Lewis was replaced by Marcus The Carcass Natale. The new line-up released the mini-album Free Beer For Life! on Millers and Linnas own Norton Records label and a number of European singles. Saxophonist Lars Espensen was added in 1988.
