This US rap crew specialize in fun, funky tunes. The line-up comprises J-Ro (James Robinson, Los Angeles, California, USA), Tash (b. Rico Smith, Ohio, USA) and DJ E-Swift (b. Eric Brooks, Ohio, USA). Despite raised eyebrows over their name and gaudy stage performances, Tha Alkaholiks have become popular proponents of ‘party rap’. J-Ro had intended to become a rapper since the age of 13, spending countless hours in his bedroom making tape recordings. His two accomplices had already formed a partnership for house parties, with E-Swift switching to the turntable. The trio came to the attention of King Tee, who was searching for a back-up band, and they joined him in time for 1993’s Tha Triflin’ Album, and its attendant single, ‘I Got It Bad Y’All’.
