Biography
Vicksburg, Mississippi, USA. Having spent more than a decade as one of Los Angeles foremost session singers, in recent years Evans has taken firm steps towards a solo career. As a teenager, he sang with a high-school vocal group, the Knights, who from time to time sang with the Red Tops, a big band popular in Clarksdale and Jackson and around the Delta. Evans was 22 when he moved to Los Angeles. For several years, he held a day job and at weekends sang in small clubs around South Central LA, including the Cotton Club and the Road Runner. He met Bobby King through a mutual friend and the pair rehearsed together. In 1976, King secured a recording contract with Warner Brothers Records and called Evans when Ry Cooder asked for backing singers while recording Chicken Skin Music.
