An amalgamation of punk pop and acoustic folk, the twin sister duo Tegan and Sara Quin (19 September 1980, Calgary, Alberta, Canada) began performing in the late 90s. Residing in Vancouver, they began by playing in local high school punk bands, but ultimately decided to pick up acoustic guitars (after growing tired of bandmates coming and going and continually blowing amps). Their unpredictable and fun stage show soon attracted a solid following, that led to a spot on Sarah McLachlans Lilith Fair in 1999. The same year they released their independent debut album, Under Feet Like Ours. Shortly thereafter, the duo came to the attention of Neil Young, who signed them to a US recording contract with his label, Vapor Records. Their debut for Vapor, This Business Of Art, was supported by touring with artists such as Young, the Pretenders and Rufus Wainwright, and a European jaunt with Bryan Adams, among others.
