Biography
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA-based indie rock band formed in 2003 by Josh Grier (7 January 1980, Eugene, Oregon, USA; vocals/guitar), Jeremy Hanson (b. 12 August 1986, Edina, Minnesota, USA; drums), Shawn Neary (b. USA; bass) and Matt Kretzman (b. 21 May 1980, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; keyboards). Each member took a title from a word in the bands name, so that Grier was Tapes 1, Hanson was Tapes 2, and Neary and Kretzman shared the n. The quartet made their debut in 2004 with the independently released Tapes n Tapes EP, which quickly built up a word-of-mouth reputation on the Internet owing in no small part to the enthusiastic backing of a number of online music sites. The band then decamped to a remote studio in the woods of Wisconsin to record songs for a projected debut album.
