Biography
Talmage Bachman, 13 August 1969, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The son of Randy Bachman, of Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive fame, was always going to have an advantage when it comes to the rudiments of power pop. Bachman grew up surrounded by music, but in his late teens and early twenties took time off to travel and begin a political philosophy course in Utah. Realising that music was his first love, he returned home and set about writing material and recording demos at his fathers studio in White Rock, British Columbia. These demos came to the attention of Columbia Records, who promptly signed Bachman in 1997. His debut album, co-produced with Bob Rock, was largely recorded in Maui, Hawaii, and released in April 1999. Power pop legends Cheap Trick, Electric Light Orchestra and Eric Carmen were obvious reference points, but Bachmans way with a melody on songs such as the emotional ballad If You Sleep and the US Top 20 single...
