Raised in the Basque region of south-west Europe, Luc began learning to play the guitar at the age of five but with no tutor available for the instrument, instead he learned to play the violin, cello and mandolin. His first influences were his older brothers, Serge (percussion) and Gérard (accordion). Among Lucs manifold musical influences were jazz musicians such as Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett and John McLaughlin, while influential genres include the folk music forms he heard during his formative years in the Basque region. In 1988, Luc went north to Paris where he encountered musicians such as Richard Galliano and Francis Lassus. While studying for a masters degree in classical guitar, Luc was hired by Argentinean singer Jaïro.
