Supersilent apparently never rehearse as a group, do not discuss music with each other, and meet only to play concerts together or to record, only partly as a consequence of the climate and topography of their home country, Norway. Although the members’ names do not appear on their releases, Supersilent are Helge Sten (producer/sound artist), Ståle Storløkken (synthesizers), Jarle Vespestad (drums), and Arve Henriksen (trumpet/electronics). The role of the first of these is credited simply as ‘audio virus’ - essentially, he applies his technical/production know-how to the band’s live performances. The quartet formed in Oslo, Norway, in 1997 after Sten approached free jazz trio Veslefrekk with the idea of forming a new quartet.
