Biography
Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. A protégée of Macy Gray, urban soul singer Anderson abandoned a steady government job to pursue her musical goals. Although besotted by music from an early age, Anderson initially concentrated on a different career path, earning a B.S. in criminal justice from North Carolina Central University. It was while at Central that Anderson first struck up a musical partnership with producer Mike City. She moved to Washington, DC, to work in human resources, but subsequently decided to relocate to Los Angeles to attempt to make it as a singer. Her partnership with City, a vice-president of Soulife Entertainment, eventually reached fruition when a recording contract was signed with Atlantic Records and Gray became her manager. Although Andersons gruff vocals are reminiscent at times of her mentor, musically she and City opted for a far more contemporary urban sound, distancing the singer from the concurrent neo-soul scene....
