More down-to-earth researchers have suggested the birth-date above, although this remains unconfirmed. There is a similar uncertainty about his original name: while he sometimes went under the name of Herman ‘Sonny’ Blount in the 30s and 40s, he also used the name Sonny Lee and claimed that his parents’ name was Arman.
