Steven B. Hill, Miami, Florida, USA. Latin hip-hop artist whose records were bedecked with vocals for which the term crooning was not too strong. As well as dance numbers and rap excursions, he was equally adept at balladeering. In fact, the latter style gave him his first crossover hits, Love & Emotion and Because I Love You (The Postman Song). The latter topped the US singles chart for four weeks at the end of 1990. However, long before he entered the mainstream, Stevie B was selling huge quantities of his product, going platinum and gold on several records in ethnic markets. As his career progressed, the mood swung from rap to slick dance or swingbeat. It was all carried off with a lack of subtlety and a pre-teen image. He continued recording throughout the decade without ever again threatening the mainstream charts.
