Biography

Kieran White (d. December 1995; vocals, harmonica), Martin Pugh (lead guitar), Martin Quittenton (rhythm guitar), Steve Davy (bass) and Michael Rushton (drums) made their recording debut in 1969 with the excellent Steamhammer. The set featured an impressive group original, ‘Junior’s Wailing’, which was later adopted by Status Quo during their transformation from pop group to boogie band. Pugh and Quittenton also contributed to Rod Stewart’s first debut, An Old Raincoat Won’t Let You Down, and the latter guitarist subsequently remained with the singer, co-writing the million-selling ‘Maggie May’, and adding the song’s distinctive mandolin sound.
