Biography
Kieran White (d. December 1995; vocals, harmonica), Martin Pugh (lead guitar), Martin Quittenton (rhythm guitar), Steve Davy (bass) and Michael Rushton (drums) made their recording debut in 1969 with the excellent Steamhammer. The set featured an impressive group original, Juniors Wailing, which was later adopted by Status Quo during their transformation from pop group to boogie band. Pugh and Quittenton also contributed to Rod Stewarts first debut, An Old Raincoat Wont Let You Down, and the latter guitarist subsequently remained with the singer, co-writing the million-selling Maggie May, and adding the songs distinctive mandolin sound. Pugh, White and Davy were then joined by Steve Jollife (saxophones/flute) and Mick Bradley (d. February 1972; drums) for Steamhammer Mk.
