Biography
Based in Montreal, Canada, indie pop band Stars was formed in Toronto by Torquil Campbell (vocals) and Chris Seligman (keyboards). The duo relocated to New York City for a brief period and recruited various musician friends to help them record their debut album. Released in 2001, Nightsongs rooted the bands sound directly in the 80s with an obvious affection for the work of Scottish electro pop eccentric Momus and the UKs Saint Etienne, and throwing in a cover version of the Smiths This Charming Man for good measure. Campbell and Seligman subsequently returned to Canada where Evan Cranley (bass) and Amy Millan (guitar/vocals) were recruited as full-time band members for the recording of the EP The Comeback and Stars second album, Heart.
