Todd Thomas, 25 October 1968, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Rapper Speech was exposed to the benefits of education early in life - his parents published the Milwaukee Community Journal. Later on he wrote a regular column for the 20th Century African newspaper and regularly addressed race issues on university lecture tours. His first band, the Disciples Of Lyrical Rebellion, were formed at the Art Institute Of Atlanta during his studies there. The Disciples evolved into Secret Society, who subsequently changed name to Arrested Development. Developing a coherent and persuasive Afrocentric philosophy, the multi-member Arrested Development moved into the same house and released a ground-breaking debut album, 3 Years, 5 Months, And 2 Days In The Life Of... , cited by many critics as the most significant breakthrough album of 1992.
