Biography
From Baltimore, Maryland, USA, Spank Rock comprises MC Spank Rock aka Super Disco (Naeem Juwan), producer Armani XXXchange (b. Alex Epton), DJ Ronnie Darko, and turntablist Chris Rockswell (b. Chris Devlin). While growing up in Baltimore Juwan was introduced to music by his large family and started MCing at an early age, meeting Mos Def producer Shawn J Period who mentored him in the art of hip-hop. Meanwhile Epton was being brought up by his musical parents, and vehemently encouraged to be as creative as possible. This support culminated in Epton taking the formal musical route and enrolling at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, in Baltimore, while Juwan was obtaining his education in the citys more salubrious clubs. Devlin knew both Juwan and Epton; he was busy working as a graffiti artist and talented turntable technician. It was an exhibition for Devlins graffiti that finally gathered the members in the same room and Spank Rock was formed.
