Son By Four
Internationally successful Puerto Rican vocal group founded in the mid-90s by brothers Javier and George Montes and their cousin Pedro Quiles. Originally known as Blanco Y Negro, the trio teamed up with producer and composer Omar Alfanno who in turn introduced them to Angel López, a tropical singer of some note. With López installed as lead vocalist the quartet changed their name to Son By Four and signed a recording contract with Sony Discos. Their 1998 debut, Preparense, enjoyed some success on the Latin charts and installed the quartet as one of the most exciting new tropical pop acts to emerge in the latter part of the decade. Son By Four achieved a major breakthrough in 2000 when the single A Puro Dolor (Purest Of Pain), which was released to radio in both ballad and salsa arrangements, not only took up a year long residence on the Latin charts but also crossed over into the US Hot 100.
