Biography
1949, Rhode Island, USA. Gorman started out playing guitar at the age of eight and during the next few years heard live and sometimes met many traditional country music performers who played at the Newport Folk Festival. Among these artists were Maybelle Carter and Bill Monroe and the latter was a special influence upon the boy. Gorman began playing mandolin but it was as a country fiddle player that he made his mark. During his student years at Brown University, he played in old-time music bands, especially working in bluegrass with Frank Wakefield. After graduating, Gorman visited Eire and began a lifelong association with traditional Celtic music. Through the mid-70s, Gorman was at graduate school in Utah, where he played with local bands.
