Biography

Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, Shooglenifty began life with a residency at the La Belle Angele pub and quickly drew a strong fanbase for their energised, contemporary roots material. Comprising Iain Macleod (4 April 1962, Strathy Point, Scotland; mandolin), Angus R. Grant (b. 14 February 1967, Fort William, Scotland; fiddle), Garry Finlayson (b. 24 September 1952, Kirkwall, Scotland; banjo/banjax), Malcolm Crosbie (b. 25 May 1960, Edinburgh, Scotland; guitar/whistling), Conrad Ivitsky (b. 28 October 1968, Edinburgh, Scotland; bass) and James MacKintosh (b. 11 August 1966, Fort William, Scotland; drums/piano), the band members’ previous experiences had included stints with Capercaillie, the House Band, Mouth Music and Miro. All bar Macleod had also been part of the Edinburgh ‘psychobilly’ act, Swamptrash.
