Biography
23 April 1928, Santa Monica, California, USA. By the time this actress, singer, and dancer was six years old, she was a movie star of the first magnitude. Four years later, she became 20th Century-Foxs - and Hollywoods - top box-office attraction, with reported annual earnings of $300, 000. Her poise, acting and dancing, plus her incredible screen presence, even gave rise to scurrilous rumours to the effect that she was a dwarf. After taking dancing lessons from the age of three, she appeared in short films and played bit parts in several minor features before coming to prominence singing Baby Take A Bow in the 1934 musical Stand Up And Cheer. Her nine pictures in 1934, including Little Miss Marker, which made her a major film attraction, earned her a special (miniature) Academy Award in grateful recognition of her outstanding contribution to screen entertainment during the year.
