This indie/electro band was formed in Los Angeles, California, USA in December 2002. Founding members Chad Petree (Gregori Chad Petree, 8 October 1979, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; vocals/guitar) and Jeremy Dawson (b. 19 May 1976, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; bass/keyboards) had previously worked together on underground dance projects. They recruited Carah Faye Charnow (b. London, England; vocals) and Mikey Martin (drums) to complete the line-up of their new project, which was focused on using the synthesizer as the lead instrument, similar to other bands from the mid-00s such as the Killers and the Bravery. This new wave use of synthesizers and the boy/girl vocals was reminiscent of static 80s bands such as the Human League. The band developed a fanbase from playing local shows and by gaining a large MySpace following.
