Biography
Shanice Wilson, 14 May 1973, McKees Rocks, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but raised in Los Angeles, California, USA. Shanice began singing on stage with her mother Crystal and her aunt Penni, who now jointly oversee her career. Afterwards, she found her way into the modelling industry, appearing in television commercials, including one with Ella Fitzgerald, and performing in local musicals before reaching her teens. One particular performance in Get Happy led to her first recording contract when she was just 11-years old, with A&M Records. By 1990 she had been signed to Motown Records by president Jheryl Busby. Partnered with producer Narada Michael Walden, the resulting chemistry produced a 1992 gold-certified album, Inner Child, which featured the international hit single I Love Your Smile. Two other US Top 10 hits were also featured: Silent Prayer (which saw accompaniment from labelmate Johnny Gill) and Im Crying....
