Biography
Comprising singers Carl Martin (29 August 1970), Marc Gay (b. 22 January 1969), Garfield A. Bright (b. 12 October 1969) and Darnell Van Rensalier (b. 17 May 1970), US R&B group Shai made a strong impact with their 1992 debut album, If I Ever Fall In Love. It peaked at number 3 in the Billboard R&B chart, and at number 6 in the pop chart, and included the hit singles Comforter, Baby Im Yours and the title track, which reached number 2 on the pop singles chart. Recorded in only six weeks, in retrospect it sounded a little rushed. In comparison, 1993s Right Back At Cha, which featured remixes and alternative versions of songs from the debut, was a commercial disappointment. It sold less than a tenth of the copies that the debut had sold. The groups second album proper was not released until 1995.
