Biography

Caherlistrane, County Galway, Eire. This Galway-based singer-songwriter comes from three generations of musicians. He is the brother of Dolores Keane, and with his three brothers and three sisters he recorded an album called Muintir Cathain. Previously Keane had played the whistle and flute in Segui, a traditional Celtic band, but, after touring for two years, the group had their equipment stolen and Keane joined Delores’ band, Reel Union. When that too fell apart Keane earned money as a welder, but also appeared at dozens of fleadhs and joined the band Arcady. He starred in Sean Tyrrell’s theatrical adoption of the bawdy eighteenth-century poem, The Midnight Court and finally made his solo recorded debut in 1993 on All Heart, No Roses on which he was accompanied by Alec Finn (De Dannan), Johnny ‘Ringo’ McDonaugh (Arcady), Dermot Byrne (Altan) and others.
