Biography
This London, England-based quartet adhere closely to the US alternative rock sound of bands such as Pavement and Sonic Youth, mixing lo-fi beats and delicate melodies with bursts of savage guitar work. The band was formed in Highbury in autumn 1996 by David Line (guitar/vocals), Kevin Hendrick (bass/vocals), Charles MacLeod (guitar), and Caroline Banks (drums/vocals). The quartet made their live debut for Save The Children the following March, before forging an alliance with the cult independent label Fierce Panda Records. Their debut 7-inch Scorch Comfort was released in January 1998, and was followed by two further singles and the mini-album Messenger In The Camp. The band members continued to balance full-time jobs with touring and writing sessions before signing a proper recording contract with Fierce Panda in summer 1999. Surviving The Quiet, released in February 2000, was actually the first full-length album to be sanctioned by the label.
